Just shy of a year ago San Francisco’s Taylor Stitch introduced a line of men's and women's apparel based entirely around both merino wool, and movement. The collection was such a success that, after a period of down time, it's now back as a stand alone brand of the same name, CIVIC.

CIVIC expands on the original initiative—though now just for men, for the time being— to produce a better, more mobile, more sustainable set of basics with the addition of an altruistic aspect too—specific items support community-themed projects and institutions with a portion of profits.

Again, it’s all about the basics. The brand exists not to hump trends, but help the masses embrace the benefits of nature’s most near-perfect material, merino wool. From sprinting to catch a train or cycling to work or around town, everyday life activities can be made less abrasive thanks to merino’s natural odor resistance, moisture wicking, and highly breathable properties.

The core of the program is a set of clean, slim-fitting chinos and oxford cloth shirt made with 70% merino and 30% Sorona blend (Sorona is a particularly strong, plant-based fabric designed to stretch without losing it’s shape i.e. prevent crotch blow outs), a mercerized merino t-shirt and henley, and an innovative weather-resistant jacket. Additionally, CIVIC partnered with student and education focused organization Public-Supply to produce a set of American-made notebooks. For each notebook set sold, 25% of profits will go to SF’s Mission High Foundation.

Each piece may cost a small percentage more than your usual off the rack garb, but with CIVIC you’re surely getting your money’s worth. And supporting a more sustainable approach to manufacturing too.
