Field Mag History
Welcome to Field Mag, a media company making modern outdoor lifestyle content for lovers of good design and the great outdoors. Each week our New York City-based editors publish a wealth of original content to inform and inspire readers to get outside and explore the world around them. Our goal is to help make the outdoor space more accessible and welcoming to all nature lovers, regardless of background or locale.
In late 2015 Field Mag was founded by veteran outdoors and design editor and photographer Graham Hiemstra and developer/designer Chris Stillitano in a tiny New York City apartment. Since this time Field Mag has grown into one of the most trusted voices for discerning outdoor enthusiasts looking to learn about the best new gear, get inspired for their next big trip, and discover the cabin of their dreams.
Our original content is created by in-house editors and an ever growing list of award-winning photojournalists, professional athletes, experienced writers, and many more buzzwordy creatives from more than a dozen different countries around the globe.
We make content for people like us—uncompromising city dwellers obsessed with aesthetics who live for weekend adventures and the next big trip. We hike, camp, climb, ride bikes, ski and snowboard. We hike and fly fish in Catskills, camp in the Adirondacks, boulder in Central Park, and surf Rockaway Beach—that's right, New York IS a real outdoorists dream destination after all. We may not be claiming KOMs or PRs on a daily basis, but we once set up a Strava account with the idea to do so.
We are nature loving, multi-hyphenate folks of many backgrounds making content for all the other nature lovers looking to get inspired for their next holiday, to learn about best-designed new gear, or simply to find a cabin to escape to. We share stories that pair well with a second cup of coffee.
Thanks for being here with us. We hope you enjoy your stay.
xoxo
